Sarah has been a life-long equestrian. She started riding at 8 years old. Her initial focus as a young rider and teenager was hunt seat. She received instruction and competed in the equitation and hunter divisions. Also as a youth, Sarah was very active in the Lakeville Pony Club. She participated in all pony club activities, and earned her USPC B rating. Due to college, she was not able to go on and test for her A.

Combined Training Years

While in college, Sarah pursued her developing interest in Combined Training. With her horse Gunmetal, whom she acquired off the racetrack and trained herself, she was able to compete very successfully through Preliminary level. During her college years, she also took a semester off and trained in England at Porlock Vale Riding Academy, where she attained her BHSAI. She then returned to the U.S. to finish her degree at the University of Massachusetts, graduating with a BS in Animal Science. During this eventing phase of Sarah’s professional life, she also coached two silver North American Young Riders teams.

After graduating, Sarah worked as an instructor in the University of Massachusetts Equestrian program, and after a few years, was named Director of Equestrian Studies.

Concentrating on Dressage

At this time, she was “bitten” by the dressage bug, and began training with her mentor, Cindy Sydnor. She worked with Cindy regularly for 6 years. Also during this time, she participated regularly in clinics with Walter Christensen from Germany. Walter was instrumental in the development of dressage in New England. After Cindy Sydnor moved out of the area, Sarah trained with Volker Brommann for 5 years.

When Sarah married, she moved to Connecticut, where she and her husband Richard bought a farm. She taught and trained at her Angushire Farm for 20 years. During this time period, Sarah helped many young professionals launch their careers. She had a successful working student program, and remains a very active instructor in the region .
